PROHIBITION IS AN INEFFECTIVE SOLUTION

Editor, the Times:

A response to two letters from the Sept. 1 issue of the Times:

Tim Felger is correct when he says drug prohibition is "a
self-perpetuating, money-burning, people-killing machine." Anyone who
works with drug-addicted people would agree with that. Anyone who has
drug addiction issues (they are not all prostitutes, burglars and
thieves) would agree with that. The laws prohibiting drugs are made in
response to knee-jerk reactions of an ignorant populace who do not
understand anything at all about drugs. It is time for the Government
of Canada to wake up and change the laws. Shame on them for not doing
it.

I was impressed with Carol Timofee's letter. Anyone who bothers to
take a trip to the dump would know that she is absolutely correct. I
know Patricia Ross is a highly respected councillor, but she must walk
the walk and talk the talk.
