END PROHIBITION OF MARIJUANA

The contents of the letter titled 'Beware of Police?' in the July 15
issue is further proof of why the prohibition of marijuana should be
rescinded. It simply provides police with far too much power to abuse
whomever they choose, whenever they choose and practically wherever
they see fit; and they do. Time and time again, with virtual impunity
right across Canada. These are not new isolated or random
occurrences.

In both instances cited, the officers in question said they could
smell marijuana before proceeding to abuse the process and the
sanctity of the individual. The validity of the claim didn't matter
beyond the pretext needed to confront. It rarely does - therein is
the problem and how this practice is able to continue.
