LETTERS OF THE WEEK

To the editor:

Re: "Kerr firewall stonewalls Insite critic," July 22.

What an interesting contrast between the Courier's Wednesday interview
with Thomas Kerr about Insite, and the weekend cover story about the
traffic circle garden destroyed by city crews.

Gardening is ruthlessly suppressed when it gets in the way of other
people's work, but parasitic drug use, which is getting in the way of
other people's work in a much bigger way, is condoned in the name of
science.

Apparently at the top of the heap is Thomas Kerr. If you get in the
way of his work, you'll get a letter from his lawyer. Whether he is
clear on the concept of science or not, it is pretty apparent that
Kerr is not clear on the concept of the public interest.

Note to Thomas Kerr: good science does not fear public scrutiny... unless
you're saying that your peer reviewers were guilty of scientific misconduct.
