ABBOTSFORD COCAINE FIND BIGGEST IN WESTERN CANADA

Huntingdon border officers in Abbotsford recently seized 140 kilograms
of cocaine, making it the largest land border seizures ever made by
the Canadian Border Services Agency in western Canada, it said.

CBSA officers discovered 144 bricks of cocaine on July 19 while
searching a commercial truck and trailer.

During the examination of the trailer, officers found anomalies with
the refrigeration unit, suggesting it had been altered.

Once the officers gained access to the unit and removed the cover,
they found numerous cellophane-wrapped packages hidde inside the
modified refrigeration unit. A narcotics kit test confirmed the
substance in the bricks was cocaine. The officers immediately arrested
the driver.

Since 2007, officers in the Pacific Region have seized 1.35 tonnes of
cocaine. The driver of the truck and the drugs were turned over to the
RCMP for further investigation. Charges are pending.
