PITY THE POOR MARIJUANA GROWER

Re "Judge takes pity on marijuana grower" (May 26)

I didn't know whether to laugh, cry or scream when I read about this
pitiful woman who was sentenced to one year of house arrest and 18
months probation for her crime. She had produced, or was producing,
$300,000 worth of marijuana and had stolen approximately $100,000
worth of electricity.

She, this pitiful person, has been in Canada since the 1970s but just
couldn't find a job. Poor thing! So, her husband had abandoned her,
what's the big deal there? It happens a lot.

And Mr. Justice Michael Block took pity on her? Talk about the
criminal justice system. Justice for the criminal -right! If the
police could let me know where and when they are going to burn this
"crop," I could just go and inhale. I wouldn't need pain pills for
quite a while.

So now this pitiful person can live in her own home for a year while
serving her "sentence." Poor thing. She's been in this wonderful
country for 30 years and couldn't find a job, so she decided to grow
marijuana -she had no choice. Talk about misplaced pity. I'm sure if
some young man or women stole some minor item, they would go to jail.

I don't approve of theft in any form, but justice is supposed to be
fair. My pity is for the individuals who are not treated fairly.
