TO CUT DOWN ON CRIME, LEGALIZE ILLICIT DRUGS

Re: the editorial "Target serious end of drug spectrum" (May 15).

This editorial states that Kingston police chief Stephen Tanner "is on
the right track in bolstering the department's drug unit and targeting
drug crimes that he believes are linked to other criminal acts, such
as robberies."

Tanner and the Whig are dead wrong. It is the fact that these drugs
are illegal that is causing the crime, not the drugs themselves. If
tomatoes were banned and users were forced to commit crimes in order
to buy them, the police would say that tomatoes are causing crime.

End drug prohibition and see crime rates come down.
