Why would a law-abiding citizen need to worry about a search of their car? The answer is simple. Without due process, a police officer could stop anybody at any time anywhere. The officer could rifle through your bag or purse, find the most vague piece of evidence and arrest you. Even a mild objection could put forth a charge of obstruction. During your interview at the police station, a poorly worded response could tie you to a crime which you did not commit. The Charter protects every citizen whether or not you ever directly need to use it. Jim Nosella, Burnaby - --- MAP posted-by: Keith Brilhart
