CHEMICALS DUMPED AT RESERVOIR

Police kept watch Tuesday, April 14, on a chemical dump alongside a
water reservoir that supplies water to the Thacker Mountain
subdivision and in the Kawkawa Lake area until a hazardous material
clean-up team could arrive on Wednesday.

A number of 50-gallon steel drums and numerous other smaller chemical
containers were dumped in the 21000 block of Thacker Mountain Road.

"It is believed that these items were dumped sometime in the last
week and may be chemicals from a clandestine (drug) lab," says RCMP
communication officer, Lea-Anne Dunlop.

Police have confirmed with the Ministry of Environment "that the
water supply has not been compromised, and it appears that there was
no spillage from any of the containers," adds Dunlop.

It was also confirmed that the large drums were empty but five-gallon
containers did have material in them.

If you witnessed any suspicious activity in the area, or who have any
information on the persons or vehicle associated to dumping these
items call the Hope RCMP, or to provide information anonymously
through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS, "adds Dunlop.
