CAUSE FOR CONCERN

Re: "Redlands rave touted as marijuana event," April 2.

As the parent of an 18-year-old son, I was horrified when I read
about the two young girls who went missing after attending a rave at
Pharaoh's Theme and Water Park. It was a parent's worst nightmare come true.

Rave fans might say, "It's all about the music and the fun."
Unfortunately, it is also about the alcohol and drugs that are often
available to underage youth who attend these events.

What is difficult to understand is how this one got by the city of
Redlands. I hope the Redlands City Council strengthens its
conditional-use permit process so these things don't happen again.

It is never safe when underage youth have easy access to alcohol and
drugs that put them at risk. And it will not be safe when the 420
Festival scheduled for Saturday April 18 is over and 10,000 young
people spill onto the streets, sleep deprived and possibly under the
influence of alcohol or drugs to make their way home.
