MPPS IN FAVOUR OF RENAMING HIGHWAY 420

Giving Hwy. 420 a new, more meaningful name is a "wonderful idea,"
says Niagara Falls MPP Kim Craitor.

Craitor's endorsement, as well as Transportation Minister Jim
Bradley's approval are two of the requirements to rename the
400-series highway, which is also the gateway to the city's tourism
district.

Craitor, who was instrumental in changing the name of Hwy. 405 in
Niagara-on-the-Lake to the Sir Isaac Brock Parkway, said he is in
favour of changing the 420's name.

"I do like the idea," he said.

Another requirement to rename the highway is for a resolution of
council, which was introduced by Coun. Victor Pietrangelo and passed
at last Monday's council meeting.

David Oved, a spokesperson for Bradley, said the minister would be in
favour of changing the name so long as all of the requirements,
including defining the limits of the highway to be dedicated,
identifying the group or individual being recognized, providing
supporting rationale for the proposal, are fulfilled.

"When all of the requirements have been completed he will give it
favourable consideration," said Oved.

Pietrangelo is partial to renaming the highway to something
significant to veterans, ridding the association of Highway 420 - 4:20
p.m. is the traditional time for users to light up - to marijuana.
