'TOOLS' TO FIGHT CRIME A MYSTERY

Editor, The News:

I agree with Mayor Peary that the police lack the tools required to
quell the violence created by the struggle for power within the
gangster community.

However, what would these tools be? It is my opinion that there is not
and never will be a "tool" that the police could possess that will
stop this problem. It is a problem for humanity that cannot be solved
through prohibition or by taking away a person's right to do what they
want with their own body.

Children are only introduced to drugs because of the potential to make
money. No money, no illegal drugs, less crime.

At the moment, we could put an armed police officer on every street
corner and all it would do is create the potential for armed conflict
at every one of those locations as the criminals become more creative
and violent as the price of illegal drugs increases.

In short, we would be less safe. Take Northern Ireland as an example
of armed security. Is this what we want?
