MEDICAL POT CARDS GO BEFORE SUPS

At next Tuesday's meeting, Nevada County supervisors will consider
authorizing the implementation of the Medical Marijuana
Identification Card program.

If approved, those with Medi-Cal would pay $65 for the card, while
those without the state health insurance would pay $130.

Of the $130, $66 is sent to the state while $64 will remain in the
county to cover local administration costs.

Nevada County participation in the ID card program is mandatory under
State Law.

The Medical Marijuana Program allows qualified patients to apply for
and receive identification cards through their county of residence.

The local program will be operated out of the county Public Health
Department's Vital Records Office.

The office will accept applications by appointment. Applicants will
have their photograph taken and information will be forwarded to the state.

It is anticipated that demand for the identification card would be
very low, as has been the experience in other counties. We anticipate
a demand of less than 20 cards each year," said Jeff Brown, county
director of health and human services agency in a staff report to the board.
