VANCOUVER'S SHAME

Re: B. C. Beset By Targeted Killings, Feb. 14.
I have to wonder if British Columbia's very liberal society is coming back
to haunt it.
With its safe injection sites and very lenient judicial system, B. C. has
become a focal
point for ruthless gangs plying the drug trade. British Columbia has been
competing with
Mexico as the main supplier of marijuana to the U. S. for years. The
province's
inability to stamp out this lucrative trade undoubtedly has emboldened the
current
street gangs.

As British Columbia is set to become Canada's showpiece during the
2010 Winter Olympics, urgent action is needed to make Vancouver a city
we all can be proud of, instead of a shameful gangland.
