PEOPLE HAVE SPOKEN ON POT; LET'S MAKE SURE OUR OFFICIALS LISTEN

I am writing this letter as a lifetime Quincy resident, Quincy High
School Class of 2002, Operation Iraqi Freedom veteran, and 10
years-plus strong marijuana user.

This is in response to your Jan. 9 article, "Officials look to add
tougher fines for smoking pot in public."

Sixty-eight percent of the vote in Quincy was a "yes" on Question
2.

The people have spoken, and we were not saying we only want weed
decriminalized in our homes.

That is exactly what will happen if these local ordinances are
passed.

We voted yes on Question 2 to end this reefer madness witch-hunt and
protect our children's futures.

Our local government thinks they know how to raise our children better
then we do.

By even trying to pass these ordinances, they are not only undermining
the majority vote and the electoral process but they are undermining
our right to stand up and say, "It is time to change!"

Do not let this happen.

I remember thinking when Question 2 passed that maybe things could
start to get better now.

Maybe police would start focusing on helping heavy drug users. But,
sadly, that is not the case, yet.

So, last week we had to tell our public servants again, "Weed will no
longer be a criminal offense in our city." The people have spoken.
