A deputy with the Summit County Sheriff's Office was traveling westbound when the man's Jeep was observed running off the road in the opposite direction, "kicking up a cloud of dust/debris," according to the SCSO report. The deputy conducted a traffic stop and observed "smoke emanating from the interior of the vehicle that smelled like burnt marijuana," according to the report. The driver's eyes appeared "glassy/watery looking" and the scent of an alcoholic beverage was apparently noticeable along with the marijuana. Asked whether he had marijuana, the driver first said no. The deputy explained the smell and the driver handed over a bag containing two grams of a green, leafy substance. The driver is not a registered medical marijuana user, according to the report. Asked to step out of his vehicle for voluntary roadside maneuvers, the driver said: "Look sir, I am (censored) up, I have been drinking alcohol, and smoking pot," according to the report. "I made a mistake, I don't want to waste anybody's time, we both know that I shouldn't be driving, I don't want to take the test, just do what you have to do." The man was taken into custody and a K9 unit searched the vehicle - and found a vaporizer, a mechanical device used for smoking plant matter, according to the report. Burnt and unburnt matter in the stem smelled of burnt marijuana. On the way to Summit County Jail, the man thanked the deputy for getting him off the road because he "shouldn't be driving," according to the report. The man faces six charges including driving under the influence for operating a vehicle under the influence of marijuana and alcohol, operating a motor vehicle with a breath alcohol reading over 0.08 (his breath sample was 0.082), careless driving off the paved surface, consumption of alcohol by a minor, possessing less than one ounce of marijuana and possessing drug paraphernalia. - --- MAP posted-by: Keith Brilhart
