TAKE AWAY GANGS' POWER BY LEGALIZING DRUGS

Re: "Taking the power away from gangs" (The Daily Graphic, Jan. 15).

If Sgt. Stuart Evans really cared about public safety, he would be
calling for the regulation of all drugs.

The only way to take the power away from gangs is to limit their
profit. The best way to do that is to regulate their most lucrative
commodities, meaning drugs.

If coke, meth, heroin - and most especially marijuana - were legal and
regulated, the gangs would have nothing to gain profit from and
nothing to fight over.

Regulating drugs would reduce crimes, save lives and save money. But
even though the dullest kid in any class could easily figure that out,
cops will never admit to it because it would also mean laying off a
lot of officers.

There are some police in this world who still have a bit of honour,
though; they are called Law Enforcement Against Prohibition,
