MAN GOING TO PRISON FOR HAVING POT

Quebec man was sentenced to 15 months in federal prison for possessing
about 170 pounds of marijuana after being stopped by state police in
the town of Philadelphia.

Yannick Marticotte, 23, of Mercier, Quebec, was sentenced Tuesday in
U.S. District Court in Syracuse on a charge of possession with intent
to distribute marijuana. He was also given three years of post-release
supervision.

A state police K-9 unit stopped Mr. Marticotte's vehicle May 24 on
Route 11 for alleged failure to keep right. After his dog began to
alert at the scene, the handler searched the vehicle. About 173 pounds
of marijuana was found in the trunk and back seat of the vehicle.

Mr. Marticotte told an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent that
he was offered up to $10,000 to drive six bags of marijuana to New
Jersey, federal court documents show.

The U.S. Border Patrol and the state police Bureau of Criminal
Investigation assisted.
