DELTA NDLEA SEIZES 15.2 TONNES OF INDIAN HEMP

Arrests 87 Suspects

Eighty seven suspected persons were arrested while a total of 15.2
tonnes of Indian Hemp were arrested between January to December last
year, according to the official statistics released from the Delta
state command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency  (NDLEA).

Among the seizure were sixteen bags of weeds suspected to be Indian
Hemp concealed in an ambulance belonging to Akwa-Ibom state
government which was caught along Benin/Asaba highway sometime in
July last year.

Speaking to Vanguard on the activities of the command last year, the
State NDLEA, Commander Suleiman Ahmed Ningi said that apart from the
15.2 tonnes of Indian hemp impounded and 87 suspects arrested, "we
also secured a total of 23 convictions during the period under
review while 35 suspects were counseled and two vehicles used for the
illicit business were seized. "But the major problem facing the
command is lack of operational vehicles," he stated,.

He warned drug dealers to relocate from the state or face hard time
as "my men as usual will go all out to fish them out."
