POT FARM GROWS IN BROOKLYN

Hundreds of pounds of marijuana was found both growing and already
packaged in the vacant warehouse.

A fire in Brooklyn Wednesday shed light on a marijuana farm,
authorities said.

Firefighters responding to a small blaze at a warehouse spotted the
large pot-growing operation in a neighboring building, officials said.

The discovery turned a routine fire run into a narcotics bust, with
cops hauling out trash bags full of the illegal plants. The growers
were nowhere to be found, police said.

The case unfolded after firefighters responded to calls of smoke
billowing from the one-story warehouse on Decatur St. in Bushwick
about 8:30 a.m. and quickly doused the flames in less than 30 minutes,
FDNY officials said.

Somehow the smoke-eaters sniffed out the pot in a three-story building
next door and called the cops.

It was unclear how the farm was discovered.

Police sources said the first floor of the commercial warehouse was
littered with pot plants.

Cops confiscated 80 to 100 plants.

The building's super said he was not aware of the marijuana operation.
He said he never got into the growing area because it was chained off
and padlocked.

Police said they were looking for the growers Wednesday and no arrests
have been made.
