POT DISPENSARY WILL GO TO PUBLIC HEARING

A proposed ordinance introduced at Wednesday night's Palm Springs City
Council meeting that would regulate medical marijuana dispensaries was
referred to the Planning Commission, a city official said.

The ordinance would prohibit for-profit dispensaries, but allow
dispensaries organized as non-profit collectives or cooperatives as
long as they were in areas zoned for industrial use and at least 500
yards from schools, public parks, playgrounds and residential areas.

"The next step is that the Planning Commission will hold a public
hearing and then submit their recommendations to the City Council,"
City Attorney Douglas Holland said. "It will then be up to the
council whether they want to consider the Planning Commission's
recommendations and place the ordinance on a future agenda."

A date for the public hearing has not been set, according to Amy
Blaisdell, Palm Springs' director of communications.
