NOT IMMUNE FROM BIG CITY

As two recent major busts indicate, Sherwood Park is not the quiet,
safe, keep-your-front-door-unlocked-on-a-Saturday-night tiny hamlet
anymore.

As the police always say, crime knows no municipal boundaries. The
thousands of dollars worth of cash, both real and counterfeit,
thousands more worth of drugs, plus a gun, ammunition and credit card
skimming equipment all turning up in the municipality over the past
week, we realize how true that is. And these aren't isolated
incidents. A full-fledged drug house was found earlier this spring and
there have been drug busts occurring on what seems like a regular basis.

Heightened enforcement likely has a lot to do with all the recent
increase in large-scale busts. But now, nobody can deny that the big
city crime has made its way to Sherwood Park

This isn't meant to scare anyone. You shouldn't be paranoid that every
one of your neighbours is secretly stealing your power so they can
grow massive amounts of pot in their basements or that every time you
use your credit card, your personal information is going to get stolen
so that drug dealers can siphon out your money to buy the tools of
their trade.

The message that needs to get out is that nobody in the community is
immune to that problem. No community in this country is immune to it
and having a major metropolitan city on our doorstep certainly doesn't
help.

Just be aware.
