PROTEST AGAINST THE PROTESTERS

About 40 people who joined a student-organised protest this afternoon
against the recent arrests on Otago University's campus of three
students on drugs-related charges, were themselves the target of a
smaller group protesting the use of illegal drugs on campus.

The second group, about 15 people, who held banners reading "Free
Speech, Not Drugs" said they were students who were opposed to people
smoking marijuana on the university campus.

Neither police, nor any members of the university's security team,
Campus Watch, were visible at the 2pm protest during which protesters
peacefully marched from the Union Lawn on campus to the university's
registry building.
