INSPECTOR ANNOUNCES DRUG CLAMPDOWN

LEDBURY's new police inspector Jim McLaughlin has made a crackdown on
drug dealers one of his top priorities.

Inspector McLaughlin, who has been in the position for two months,
said he planned to make full use of new vehicles fitted with
number-plate scanners, and he added: "I intend to target those
criminals who enter the county to commit crime, particularly via the
A40/M50 corridor.

"A high priority for me is to target those people who manufacture or
sell drugs in the area".

He continued: "Drug dealers be warned - we're on your
case."

Inspector McLaughlin also said he wished to see police developing even
stronger links with the community of Ledbury.

He added: "I want people to have a satisfaction and confidence in the
police of which we can all be rightly proud."

Inspector McLaughlin is the Geographic Commander for South
Herefordshire, which includes Ledbury.

He was born and raised in Kilmarnock and saw service and a Colour
Sergeant with the Scots Guards, before joining West Mercia
Constabulary in 1988.
