HEARING SET FOR B.C.'S 'PRINCE OF POT'

VANCOUVER -- The province's self-styled Prince of Pot and his two of
his colleagues will face an extradition hearing on Dec. 1.

Canadians Mark Emery, Michelle Rainey and Greg Williams all face
charges of drug trafficking and money laundering in the U.S.

The three were arrested in Canada in August 2005 at the request of
U.S. officials because of Emery's Vancouver-based seed sale business
and strident pro-pot activism.

In court yesterday, two weeks were set aside for the hearing, one
starting Dec. 1 and another in February 2009.

The hearing had been delayed while both sides tried to work out a plea
bargain. The process began again last month after Ottawa nixed a
tentative deal between the 50-year-old Emery and U.S. prosecutors.
