Plecas, the holder of the RCMP Research Chair in the University College of the Fraser Valley's School of Criminology and Criminal Justice, will present his research on addressing marijuana grow-ops. The Oxford Round Table is a prestigious invitation-only forum that provides an opportunity for select leaders in both the public and private sectors, as well as scholars, to discuss government policy over a five-day period. B.C. is known for its sophisticated indoor marijuana grow-op industry and Plecas has worked extensively on how to approach the ever-increasing issue. Plecas said it is an honour that he and many others in B.C. are being noticed for their research. "The fact that a representative from UCFV has been invited to share findings garnered in co-operation with local partner agencies really illustrates how seriously regarded our research is internationally," said Plecas. The paper Plecas will be presenting includes a number of co-authors including Parvir Girn, UCFV criminology graduate and crime analyst with Surrey RCMP; Len Garis, Surrey fire chief; and Paul Nadeau, RCMP superintendent and drug branch director for National Headquarters. - --- MAP posted-by: Derek
