PLECAS TAKES ON ROUND TABLE IN ENGLAND

UCFV's Dr. Darryl Plecas is at Oxford University in England this week
to take part in the Oxford Round Table.

Plecas, the holder of the RCMP Research Chair in the University
College of the Fraser Valley's School of Criminology and Criminal
Justice, will present his research on addressing marijuana grow-ops.

The Oxford Round Table is a prestigious invitation-only forum that
provides an opportunity for select leaders in both the public and
private sectors, as well as scholars, to discuss government policy
over a five-day period.

B.C. is known for its sophisticated indoor marijuana grow-op industry
and Plecas has worked extensively on how to approach the
ever-increasing issue.

Plecas said it is an honour that he and many others in B.C. are being
noticed for their research.

"The fact that a representative from UCFV has been invited to share
findings garnered in co-operation with local partner agencies really
illustrates how seriously regarded our research is internationally,"
said Plecas.

The paper Plecas will be presenting includes a number of co-authors
including Parvir Girn, UCFV criminology graduate and crime analyst
with Surrey RCMP; Len Garis, Surrey fire chief; and Paul Nadeau, RCMP
superintendent and drug branch director for National Headquarters.
