UNIVERSITY CAN BE A ROLE MODEL

Recently a professor at Chico State University made many poor choices
and will now be receiving the consequences. In today's world where
individuals kill over growing, selling and using marijuana, this
professor put student and staff lives at potential risk. Violent
retribution frequently occurs to individuals trafficking illegal drugs.

There is great concern from parents whose children attend any
university, especially with campus violence. No one knows the off-hour
activities of university employees, legal or illegal. Parents and
students do have the right to know when on campus, university
employees do not use and promote legal and illegal drugs; these
individuals can ruin lives.

Will CSU send a clear or a double standard message? A clear message is
drug test all university employees, from the top down. It is CSU's
choice. Send a serious message of accountability to staff and student
body -- illegal drug abuse will not be tolerated. Role model drug
testing, this is what students need to read about, not
drug-trafficking professors.

It is easy for CSU to judge and rule students' poor choices. Is it the
same for staff?

What will be the university's reaction? Oh well, hope this goes away
soon, or a proactive staff drug testing policy? If our children have
shown a past lack of accountability, they had good teachers. What is
wrong with these kids today? Current policies and headlines tell a
lot.
