"The members we have right now are really contributing more towards those types of investigations," said RCMP Cpl. Marshal McGregor. "It gives the perspective that maybe there is a worse situation in Carman because we did do a drug search on Dec 31 and we did end up charging people and such," McGregor said. "But really I think it's more of a clear indication that the members were spending the extra effort on working on that sort of investigation and we did have some luck with co-operation from the public helping us out." Still, the corporal said that these investigations are not confined to urban areas. "If anyone sees anything suspicious on a farm site, where someone's moved in recently and they don't seem to really know how to farm, let's say or there just appears to be a lot of suspicious activity, like cars going back and forth that don't regularly come into the area, a lot of unfamiliar vehicles, they can give the RCMP a call," McGregor said. "Those are just indicators that we look for and maybe we can take a look at that property if that's an issue." Traffic enforcement is another area of focus, the corporal said, due to the high traffic volume in Carman. "One area we plan to increase our work on is with the truck traffic in town, trucks using their air brakes in town and also with regards to speeding in town," he said. "We have concerns about a loaded truck, how long will it take it to stop for people who might be trying to cross at a crosswalk." McGregor added the members of the Headingley Traffic Services have also been coming to the area more frequently than in the past. "They're just supplementing our own traffic enforcement, which is really nice to have." - --- MAP posted-by: Jay Bergstrom
