WHAT PARENTS NEED TO KNOW ABOUT DRUGS

Parents of students at Lewisporte Collegiate are invited and
encouraged to attend a presentation about putting a stop to drugs.

The RCMP and Lewisporte Academy School Council have teamed up to put
off a presentation for parents on Feb. 25, 7:30 p.m. at Lewisporte
Academy (6-9 division).

Corporal Ann Noel of the RCMP Central Drug and Organized Crime
Awareness Section and Lori Mercer, addictions coordinator for Central
Health will be the presenters.

"We're doing a joint presentation on drug use, what parents need to be
looking for, the trends in the area, that sort of thing," said Cpl.
Noel.

The officer said she was pleased to have been approached by the school
council to do the presentation.

"I am excited about this request," said Cpl. Noel. "It shows the
community is very interested in their youth and want to take an active
role in preventing drug use with their children, and their community
members."

The officer stressed the importance for community members to take a
stand on drugs, know the facts about drugs and be willing to speak
with their children openly to discourage any drug experimentation.

Cpl. Noel encourages parents of students in Kindergarten to Grade 9 to
"take advantage of this wonderful opportunity."

Any other groups, organizations, parent groups or work places would
like to have Cpl. Noel meet with them can contact the Drug and
Organized Crime Awareness Section at 256-6863 or 424-4877.
