2 QUEBEC MEN PLEAD GUILTY TO HAVING 100 POUNDS OF POT

Two Quebec men admitted in federal court to possessing about 100
pounds of marijuana after a traffic stop in the village of Canton.

Sebastien Fredette, 21, and Mathieu Langlois, 22, each pleaded guilty
Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Syracuse to conspiring to possess
with intent to distribute marijuana. Both will be sentenced April 10.

St. Lawrence County sheriff's deputies stopped them May 28 near P&C
Foods on Route 11 for erratic driving, federal court records show. A
deputy noticed a large hockey equipment bag on the back seat and asked
to search the vehicle. Mr. Fredette allegedly declined the request.

Mr. Fredette then allowed a U.S. Border Patrol agent to run a K-9 unit
around the outside of the vehicle and the dog alerted to the vehicle.
The agent searched its interior, allegedly finding two hockey bags and
one black garbage bag holding marijuana.

Mr. Fredette told a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent
that he and Mr. Langlois had entered the United States at the
Champlain port of entry by bus May 26 and rented a vehicle in
Plattsburgh. They then picked up the drugs at a location near Massena
and were heading toward Interstate 81 while awaiting word of the final
destination for the bags.

Mr. Fredette told agents he was to be paid $100 per pound of marijuana
he carried, to be paid upon his return to Quebec.
