TEENS ACCUSED OF SMUGGLING

CORNWALL, Ontario - Two Akwesasne girls face charges for reportedly attempting to smuggle $217,000 Canadian across the border at the Cornwall port of entry.

The unidentified girls, ages 14 and 18, were stopped Sunday by Canadian Border Services Agency officers.  A search of the vehicle found the hidden money, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police said Thursday.

Both were charged with failing to report the currency to customs agents.  The $217,000 Canadian was seized under the Proceeds of Crime and Terrorist Financing Act of 2003.

People must report any currency valued at $10,000 Canadian or more at the border, RCMP officials said.
