POLICE'S VICTORY OVER DRUG DEALERS IN KETTERING

Tenants have been evicted from their home after residents complained
about drug dealing.

Drug use and dealing was highlighted as a problem by people living in
the Louisa Drive area of Kettering and one man kept a diary of the
disturbance it caused.

The Kettering North East Safer Community Team teamed up with the Orbit
Housing Association over the last three months to try to tackle the
issue.

As a result, some tenants were evicted from their house in Margaret
Road but officers say they will continue to monitor the situation.

PC Craig Oxley from the safer community team, said: "People living in
this area of Kettering had consistently told us they had concerns
about people dealing drugs in the area.

"It came to our attention that this activity involved the residents of
one property in Margaret Road and as a consequence we worked together
with Orbit Housing in order to evict the tenants.

"This is a good example of partnership working which has had a
positive impact for residents who had raised the issue as a concern.

"We will continue to work in partnership with Orbit and other agencies
to tackle issues that concern residents."

One resident, who asked to remain anonymous, told the Evening
Telegraph she was pleased with what the police were doing.

She said: "I'm glad the police are actually doing something about the
problems we tell them about.

"It's good to know they are serious about sorting the problems we say
should be tackled."

Other work going on in the area has included surprise police visits to
people suspected of being involved in drug dealing and the use of a
mobile police station.

There have been fewer reports of needles being found in the play park
in the area.

The safer community team, which covers the Grange estate, has set new
priorities for the next three months.

These are speeding on St John's Road and Deeble Road, illegal and
inconsiderate parking on Cheyne Walk and Eastleigh Road and
anti-social behaviour in the area of Waverley Road
