POLICE ARREST THREE ON DRUG CHARGES

SARATOGA SPRINGS -- A Schenectady County probation officer, 
[redacted] were arrested on drug charges over the
weekend, according to police.

The three were arrested about 3 a.m. Saturday near Putnam Street and
Lena Lane after a brief foot chase by police.

County probation officer Stephen A. Farina III, 30, of 1242 Viewmont
Drive, Niskayuna, was charged with felony possession of cocaine as
well as misdemeanor resisting arrest and unlawful possession of marijuana.

Farina, who had worked for the county for less than a year, was
terminated from his position Wednesday morning, said County Attorney
Chris Gardner.

Farina was briefly held at the Saratoga County Jail before posting
bail, which had been set at $25,000 cash or $50,000 bond. He is
scheduled to return to court Sept. 18.

misdemeanor criminal possession of a controlled substance.

"I am disappointed that one of our heretofore valued professionals is
involved in a situation like this in another city," said
Superintendent Jim Schultz, "Particularly when we have an expectation
of zero tolerance regarding illegal substances on our campus."

[redacted], was charged with
criminal possession of marijuana, according to police. He is due back
in court Aug. 21.
