CALLING THE POT BLEAK

Re "Gone to pot," Editorial Digest, July 12: So, the arrests for pot
possession in Canada rose to approximately 25,000 in 2006 (talk about
a society going to pot). If Canada followed your suggestion to
decriminalize marijuana, followed by its legalization, what would be
the impact on the average citizen? Probably minimal at first, but for
society at large over the long haul -- now that's the question that
needs to be debated.

Given the choice between individual freedom versus the collective
good, I would vote for the latter in a NY minute!
