STUPID POT LAWS (II)

Re: Stupid Pot Laws, letter to the editor, July 17.

I completely agree with Steve Finlay's perspective in his letter on
the current outdated and wasteful legal approach to marijuana use.
From my own perspective as a family physician, ER and hospital
physician, marijuana use/abuse would appear both widespread and
relatively benign.

In comparison, the horrendous effects of alcohol abuse are well known
and common. The prohibition approach to either substance is
ineffective and, in the case of marijuana, leads to a waste of
millions of law-enforcement dollars and a loss of more millions in tax revenue.

The peculiar irony is that the ongoing charade promoted by the
current federal government can only continue to support organized crime.
