TRAFFIC COPS NAB DRUG DRIVING SUSPECT

An Oliver man is facing drug charges after being pulled over for a
traffic infraction on Glenmore Road earlier this week.

Around 3 p.m. on Tuesday, members of the RCMP's Central Okanagan
traffic services division pulled over a 38-year-old man for not having
insurance on the vehicle he was driving.

"In checking, they noticed the smell of marijuana and subsequently
located 590 grams of marijuana in the vehicle," said Cpl. Jorge Silva.

"To date, traffic services personnel in the southeast district of
B.C., which encompasses our communities here in the Central Okanagan,
have seized over $6.75 million worth of narcotics," said Silva.

"This does not include other criminal code charges such as stolen
vehicles, weapons, etc."

"So when you see a traffic services officer checking a motorist for
seat belt usage or aggressive driving, keep in mind that that officer
is also removing nefarious individuals off our streets and seizing
significant contraband including weapons and narcotics from our
communities by looking beyond the ticket," said Silva.

The Oliver man stopped on Tuesday is being investigated for possession
of a controlled substance and is facing a drug charge and motor
vehicle act offences.

His name was not released.
