DOG ATTACKS POLICE OFFICER

A local police officer was bitten by a dog during a drug raid in a
Port Elgin residence Wednesday.

Saugeen Shores Police said they searched the home just after 4 p.m.
While the owner and the officer tried to remove four dogs from the
residence, an American bulldog broke free, knocking down the officer
and biting both of her lower legs.

The officer was treated and released from hospital and is off work for
an undetermined amount of time.

Police seized 30 grams of marijuana, 15 plants, growing equipment and
two rifles. A 25-year-old man has been charged with unsafe storage of
firearms. He and a 28-year-old woman have been charged with production
and possession of a controlled substance. The two were released on
bail Thursday and are to appear in court in Walkerton on Aug. 28.

The four dogs are at an area veterinarian's and officers are
investigating under the Dog Owners Liability Act. Depending on
findings, the dog could be destroyed.
