Contact: http://www.owensoundsuntimes.com/ Details: http://www.mapinc.org/media/1544 DOG ATTACKS POLICE OFFICER A local police officer was bitten by a dog during a drug raid in a Port Elgin residence Wednesday. Saugeen Shores Police said they searched the home just after 4 p.m. While the owner and the officer tried to remove four dogs from the residence, an American bulldog broke free, knocking down the officer and biting both of her lower legs. The officer was treated and released from hospital and is off work for an undetermined amount of time. Police seized 30 grams of marijuana, 15 plants, growing equipment and two rifles. A 25-year-old man has been charged with unsafe storage of firearms. He and a 28-year-old woman have been charged with production and possession of a controlled substance. The two were released on bail Thursday and are to appear in court in Walkerton on Aug. 28. The four dogs are at an area veterinarian's and officers are investigating under the Dog Owners Liability Act. Depending on findings, the dog could be destroyed. - --- MAP posted-by: Derek
