LONE COUNCILLOR VOTES AGAINST PRINCIPLE OF MAYOR'S DRUG STRATEGY

VANCOUVER - Coun. George Chow was the only council member who voted
Thursday against supporting the principles of Mayor Sam Sullivan's
drug strategy, called the Chronic Addiction Substitution Plan.

Chow said he had too many questions and not enough information about
the plan, which Sullivan has developed outside the mayor's office
through private fundraising and a separate non-profit organization.

"I believe the mayor has had ample time to bring forward information,
but he hasn't," said Chow.

Chow's colleagues in Vision Vancouver, Heather Deal and Tim
Stevenson, did support the CAST principles.

Council members voted unanimously in favour of a motion supporting
the extension of permission for the supervised injection site to
continue operating for another 31/2 years.
