HIGH SCHOOLS HAVE SERIOUS DRUG PROBLEM

As a high school student, I often hear some of my peers talk about
using drugs or making references to them.

I find it very disturbing that students who abuse illegal substances
talk about it as if it were acceptable. It troubles me to hear
individuals brag about how they got high.

It seems that some adults do not realize how serious the drug problem
is in our high schools. In smaller, rural schools, some adults tend
to think that the students are good kids and that drugs are not an
issue for them.

Drugs are everywhere. Do not be blinded by the idea they are only in
larger, more populated communities.

The school system does try to discourage students from using drugs
through various programs, but most students just ignore them.

Parents and other adults in the community should get involved with
their youth. They need to set a daily, positive example for those who
look up to them.

If students see the adults in their lives being a benefit to society,
they will want to be the same way.

We are the future. If the issue of drugs is simply overlooked, then
what will become of our generation?
