ON THE ROAD

Van - Re: "Addicts may get van ride to help," March 26.

Calgarians should be pleased to know there is already a program called
the DOAP Team, which deals daily with marginalized addicts in terms of
transportation, accommodation, counselling, referrals and advocacy.
DOAP stands for Downtown Outreach Addiction Partnership and is in
collaboration with Calgary Alpha House Society and CUPS Community
Health Centre. We work closely with EMS and local hospitals to help
increase the chances that these individuals will not have to access
these expensive services again.

We provide support to addicts and meet them where they are, not only
anywhere in the city, but also wherever they are in their addiction
path.

The city has noticed our importance by funding us and hopefully, the
provincial government will do the same.
