Const. Maurice Morrissette, who lives in Kemptville, made his first court appearance following his arrest Thursday on charges of trafficking of a controlled substance, two counts of possession of a controlled substance and obstructing justice. His bail hearing was adjourned until Monday, when it is believed his brother will be able to attend and act as a surety for Const. Morrissette's release. More than a dozen names of people were identified as people Const. Morrissette is forbidden to have contact with because they could be involved in the case or are potential witnesses. One charge of possession of a controlled substance was laid last August, at which time he was suspended with pay. All other charges were laid Thursday. Police say the arrest was made following a joint RCMP-OPP investigation into the drug and contraband cigarette trade in Prescott and area that began in 2005. - --- MAP posted-by: Richard Lake
