VICTORY IS NOT DRUG WAR'S GOAL

THE EDITOR:

Re: 'Legalize drugs to kill crime,' letters, Nov. 2 Times online edition.

No doubt re-legalizing all of our now illegal drugs would dramatically
reduce our overall crime rate and dramatically increase your public
safety.

However, it would also kill the huge drug war bureaucracy and drug war
industry.

Obviously, many people, organizations and institutions don't want this
to happen.

Victory is not the goal of the drug war. The real goal of the drug war
bureaucracy is its continuation and expansion.

Victory in the drug war would mean that the drug war bureaucracy is
out of business.
