U.S. LISTS DOMINICAN REPUBLIC AS A MAJOR  DRUG-TRAFFICKING
COUNTRY

SANTO DOMINGO.- Dominican Republic was included in the  United States'
list of the world's twenty top drug  production and trafficking countries.

Washington is mulling the application of sanctions  against those
nations, though the U.S. State Department  report which was filtered
to the newspaper the New York  Times doesn't specify what type.

The list also includes Bolivia, Afghanistan, Bahamas,  Brazil,
Colombia, Ecuador, Guatemala, Haiti, India,  Jamaica, Laos, Mexico,
Myanmar, Nigeria, Pakistan,  Panama, Paraguay, Peru and Venezuela.

In July the Dominican antinarcotics agency (DNCD) said  in 10 months
it had seized 6 tons of drugs, arrested  more than 12,000 people in
8,000 operations, dismantled  16,000 drug sale points and fired dozens
of agents.
