'TIS THE SEASON TO HARVEST - FOR THE OPP

On Aug. 22 officers from the Haliburton Highlands OPP detachment
discovered a marijuana grow while investigating a break and enter.

Approximately 180 marijuana plants ranging in size from one to six
feet tall were found in a ravine area near Hospitality Road in Minden
Hills. The plants were seized and no charges have been laid.

And on Aug. 27 Haliburton Highlands OPP received a phone call from a
resident near Tory Hill who discovered hundreds of marijuana plants
growing near the property. After walking a hundred yards or so down a
well-walked path police discovered 300-500 marijuana plants. The
plants were seized and no charges have been laid.

The Haliburton Highlands Detachment would like to remind members of
the public that if they come across a marijuana grow they should leave
the area and call the police. The person(s) responsible for planting
marijuana will be harvesting their crops in the near future. Officers
have found the criminals responsible for these grows and offenders
will sometimes go to extreme measures to protect their crops.

Last year police discovered a large crop on Highway #118 in which
several of the people arrested were wearing body armour and in
possession of firearms at the time of their arrest.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact the OPP at
1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Crime
Stoppers is completely anonymous and does not subscribe to call
display. You will not testify in court and you may be eligible for a
cash reward of up to $2000.
