CITY TO BE TOLD OF GROW-OP HOUSES

Owen Sound police will now notify city staff when they discover a
marijuana grow house. Protocols require city police to seal a house
where marijuana was grown once their investigation is finished and to
notify city officials, who will then send inspectors to check out the
building for things such as mold, hydro bypasses and structural
problems. City council passed a bylaw Monday to officially put the
new protocol into effect. It allows city bylaw and building
officials, health unit, hydro and any others deemed necessary to
enter and inspect the building. Provincial Bill 128, the Law
Enforcement Forfeited Property Management Statute Law Amendment Act,
2005 requires municipalities to inspect marijuana-grow houses once
notified by police and do what's necessary to ensure the building is
safe. The law doesn't apply to crystal meth labs, according to a
provincial backgrounder.
