EDITORIAL OFF BASE

Since police do not simply enforce laws pertaining to cannabis
(Double Take, Jan. 5, 2007) and are part of perpetuating the
prohibition of cannabis, it is fair to criticize them.

Years ago police mantra included: if you don't like the laws change
them and they don't make the laws they just enforce them. But no longer.

Police associations and unions organize against cannabis reform with
the effect of job security being the goal regardless of what is best
for North America.

Shame on them and shame on media for allowing and enabling it. It is
time to re-legalize cannabis even if it reduces five per cent of the
North American police force.
