ABBY TARGETS METH

Frank talk and education about crystal methamphetamine will be the
focus of a trio of events on Jan. 17 and Jan. 18 that will shine a
light on the drug and the ruthless addiction to which it can lead.

A City of Abbotsford-sponsored forum on crystal meth abuse will
feature a panel of local and provincial experts on addiction. The
event, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Matsqui Centennial Auditorium, is
going to focus on awareness, education and prevention.

The free evening includes a panel discussion, moderated by Milt
Walker, executive director of Kinghaven and Peardonville House, and a
keynote talk by Angela Marshall.

Marshall is a youth and family therapist with Fraser House Alcohol
and Drug Outpatient Society in Mission and the Sto:lo Youth Healing
Centre. She works with youth aged 13 to 24 years of age and offers a
frank presentation using images, paraphernalia demonstrations and
discussion to increase awareness and understanding of the devastating
effects of crystal meth. Be prepared for harsh facts about the addiction.

Families and community groups will have the chance to ask questions
of the panel. Along with city leaders, Attorney-General John Les is
expected to be present.

Also on Thursday, Mat, will lead a professional seminar for those
working with addictions and rehabilitation. This seminar is at
Abbotsford Community Services. Tickets are $40. To register, call 604-859-7681 .
