NDLEA MARKS UN DAY AGAINST DRUG ABUSE

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) command in Akwa Ibom
State yesterday marked this year's United Nations International Day
Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking in Drugs with a call on
Nigerians to prevent and correct drug abuse.

Speaking in Uyo at a ceremony to mark the day, the state commander of
NDLEA, Mrs. Florence Dan Archibong, said this year's theme, "Children
and Drugs" and slogan, "Drugs are not Child's Play," aims at meeting
the need for children to desist from drug abuse.

Mrs. Archibong described "drug abuse as the most colossal and ruinous
sin that afflicts mankind," stating further that children attracted to
hard drugs were those who were bored, unhappy and cannot tolerate
stress and frustration.

On drug control among children, the NDLEA boss said "classroom
teachers are the most important persons in bringing about a reduction
in drug use and dysfunctional behaviours among youths in the nation."
