PHOTOS ARE CRIME EVIDENCE, NOT YEARBOOK MATERIAL

Regarding Ruth Holladay's recent column about North Central High
School's yearbook ("Yearbook illustrates illegal activities," June 11).

As a North Central graduate and former editor of the Student Life
Section of the yearbook, I am appalled at the attitude of the current
journalism adviser. The liberal views of public journalism should not
cross over to school publications. Township educators are paid from
public funds. This implies that they will follow mandated course
curriculum and, if in an advisory position, are obligated to oversee
and edit inappropriate material. The illegal subjects and photos
found on page 39 of this book -- underage drinking and drug abuse --
belong in the Indianapolis Police Department files not in the school yearbook.
