GRANT IN FOR METH EDUCATION

The power of crystal meth and the problems the drug creates will be
the focus of a community forum and a video produced by youth in
Abbotsford - if a grant application by the City of Abbotsford is successful.

The city is applying for a grant of up to $10,000 from the province's
Community Methamphetamine Response Funding Program. Communities that
do not yet have an established crystal meth response plan can apply
for the grant to raise awareness, run education campaigns and to
develop activities and strategies.

"We're very hopeful we'll get the funding," said Don Lymes, the city's
manager of community planning.

Abbotsford's proposal includes using about half the money to fund a
youth-produced audio-visual production.

"That could be a video produced by youth, or perhaps a skit that would
travel to the high schools in September," said Lymes.

The rest would go to a community forum hosted by the city, and to
prevention and education materials.
