ASK ELSEWHERE

Editor: To satisfy J. Beauman's curiosity (The Times, May 7), an SES poll
in November 2004 found 57 per cent of Canadians want marijuana users left
alone. Furthermore, a February, 2005 poll found that 49 per cent of
Canadians thought marijuana was in the process of being legalized.

Of course, since marijuana users tend to shun institutions such as
organized religion and vice versa, perhaps Beauman should ask in other
places -- starting with a local hospice or a palliative care ward at
the local hospital -- to get a better picture of Canada's view on marijuana.
